Potential Zef Cicchetti dishes are already in the works, and Andersen has tested some at Alba, including a pig’s head ragu pasta with broccoli rabe, a melon gazpacho, and an oxtail cannelloni. Leo Keka, the owner of Alba Prime Steak & Seafood in Quincy and Alba on 53 in Hanover, had already worried about making enough before the latest restrictions. Leo also owns nearby Zef Cicchetti & Raw. While continuing Alba’s 15-year tradition of steak, seafood, and Mediterranean cuisine, Andersen will also develop the menu for Zef, drawing on his experiences from living in Venice. Most people who live on the South Shore are familiar with Leo Kekas Quincy restaurant, ALBA, and its rooftop deck. To prepare for the opening of Zef Cicchetti, Alba brought on Keith Andersen - formerly of Legal Harborside, Troquet, Craigie on Main, and Franklin Southie - to serve as executive chef.
The "Zef" part comes from Alba’s owner, Leo Keka, who named the restaurant after his father, Jozef, who passed away last year in Albania. The restaurant takes part of its name from these small plates. Leo Keka owns both locations and like many restaurant owners, he’s had a tough year, with sales at Alba down 15 to 20 percent. “Honestly, I can’t wait for every restaurant owner to be able to get staff their vaccine and go back to normal, whatever the normal life is anymore,” Keka said.A steakhouse in Quincy will soon have a sister that focuses on Italian cuisine. Keka said he’s kept his restaurants open for the past seven months without laying anyone off and said he hoped the vaccine will give him and other restaurant owners some stability. “Especially on a busy night, you see a lot of people that you normally don’t ever see so for me anyways it takes a little bit of the uneasy feeling, it kind of takes that away.” Now Alba is back open for both indoor and outdoor dining and Keka said his new restaurant is opening soon. “It makes me a little bit more comfortable coming to work knowing that I’ll be seeing so many people everyday,” Cahall said.
